Understanding My Post Procedure Symptoms

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)

Patients can expect to experience the following post EVLT:

  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Pulling or Tightening Sensation (generally occurs 5-8 days post procedure)

We advise use of ice packs and ibuprofen as needed. If you are unable to take ibuprofen, Tylenol can be taken as needed.

Sclerotherapy

Patients can expect to experience the following post Sclerotherapy:


Day of procedure into next day:

  • Bruising
  • Soreness
  • Heavy feeling

We advise use of ice packs and ibuprofen as needed. If you are unable to take ibuprofen, Tylenol can be taken as needed.


2-3 weeks post procedure:

  • Tenderness
  • Hard/Knotty areas
  • Light tea-colored discoloration
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
    • You will most likely experience swelling at the end of the day, which is normal. However, if you are experiencing a significant amount of swelling in the morning, please call our office.

We advise use of ice packs and ibuprofen as needed. If you are unable to take ibuprofen, Tylenol can be taken as needed. Continued use of compression hose and elevation as needed. If patient continues to experience tenderness along with hard, knotty areas and /or staining we recommend scheduling a decompression with one of our Registered Nurses.

Phlebectomy

Patients can expect to experience the following post Phlebectomy:

  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Hard knotty, bumpy (hematoma) areas

Patients should see improvement in the above symptoms 10-14 days post procedure. We advise use of ice packs and ibuprofen / Acetaminophen to reduce any pain and inflammation. Please avoid taking aspirin.


Patients should remove their dressings after 24 hours, if you observe any signs or symptoms of infection (redness, warmth, drainage and/or fever), please contact our office to speak to a Registered Nurse.
